DO NOT GRIEF THE HOLY SPIRIT
TREASURES OF GRACE (Daily Devotional)
SATURDAY, 14TH JANUARY 2017.
TOPIC: DO NOT GRIEF THE HOLY SPIRIT
SCRIPTURE: Grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of
redemption - Ephesians 4:30
MEMORY VERSE: Luke 1:35
DIGGING: The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of righteousness and holiness. The Holy Spirit is God's power in action, his active force. (Micah 3:8) The Holy Spirit is often described as light. He shines into the dark places of the heart and convicts us of sin ( John 16:7-11 ). He is a lamp to illumine God’s word, He charges our spirit with the energy of God so that we remain energized for God in this crooked and perversed world.
Our text opens up with a warning statement "do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God". How then can the Holy Spirit be grieved?
1) When He speaks to you and you don't hear: To be deaf(dull of hearing) in the spirit is dangerous, because we tend to frustrate the work of the Holy Spirit, kill faith and slow believe (Matthew 5:11-14).
2) When He speaks and you don't use/practice it: He is a practical being and expects us to practice whatever truth He teaches us from the word of God.
3) When He teaches you and you harden your heart: Hebrews 3:15 "...said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation." We grief Him when we rebel against His words.
4) When we take His relationship for granted.
5) When we use Him as a support for unrighteousness: The Spirit is meant to be the source of conviction in our hearts. How sad it is, that Christians try to use the Spirit to support ungodly behavior. We today see people lie in the name of the Holy Spirit, some divorce and craftily defraud people and say that they are led by the Holy Ghost. He is truth personified and is grieved when we pit Him with sin.
Make it a responsibility today not to grief the Spirit of God.
PRAYER: O Lord today I find understanding, I repent of my ways and totally submit to your Spirit from now till eternity in Jesus' Name.
